Cascade Medical | 2025 Annual Report

KRISTA CAMBURN, RN ACUTE CARE NURSE Cascade Staff for 10 years In October 2025, I came to Cascade Medical for a routine mammogram— an appointment I nearly skipped because life felt too busy. A colleague and close friend encouraged me to take an open appointment while I was on shift, and I’m incredibly grateful I did. Having experienced benign fibroids since my early twenties, I didn’t think anything serious was wrong, but I’m so glad I didn’t put it off. That decision changed everything. My screening revealed early-stage breast cancer. Catching it early gave me options and allowed me to make informed decisions about my care. Because it was caught so early, I can say today I am in complete remission and did not require chemotherapy or radiation. My experience reinforced how critical routine screenings and early detection truly are, even when life feels busy. Cascade is a close-knit environment where people genuinely care, and that shows in how patients are treated. The responsiveness, compassion, and personal connection made a meaningful difference in my experience. What stood out most was the support I received every step of the way. I had a dedicated advocate who helped coordinate my care, answer questions, guide me through the process, and ensure I could access specialized treatment at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Because my cancer was caught early, I was able to choose a bilateral mastectomy with reconstructive surgery, an option I’m deeply grateful to have had. I never felt like I was navigating it alone. During my time away from work, I was surrounded by support from my wonderful husband, family, colleagues, and community—and that support has continued even after my return. Cascade is a place where patients are met with compassion, respect, and understanding. I’m proud to be part of Cascade, not only as a nurse but as someone who has experienced this care as a patient.
