However, some chronic diseases are more prevalent , including: ■    ■ Binge drinking: 11%. ■    ■ High cholesterol: 47%. ■    ■ Arthritis: 38%. In many ways, our hospital district is healthier than most. For example, we have lower rates of obesity (21%), diabetes (7%) and high blood pressure (31%) compared to the county and state. To better serve our community, we embarked on an ambitious study—the Community Health Needs Assessment—to discover our hospital district’s biggest obstacles to achieving better health and well‑being. Three themes emerged: 1. Child and family wellness. 2. Aging in place. 3. Equity for neighbors in poverty and the working poor.
