Cascade Medical | 2020 Report to Our Community
6 2020 Report to Our Community Growth Expanding pediatric care In late 2019, Cascade Medical introduced new services for children and teens—occupational therapy and speech therapy. These therapies look like play, but underneath the fun are evidence-based therapy programs designed to help children meet their goals. Occupational therapy can help with fine motor skills (handwriting, for example), developmental delays (autism, ADHD), self-regulation and behavioral strategies. Our lead therapist is Sarah Peery, who came to Cascade Medical from North Central Education Service District in 2018. Speech Therapist Tracy Hutchins helps children overcome challenges with communication, including articulation, auditory comprehension, expression, eye contact and nonverbal communication. A practitioner since 1999, Tracy works with families to create functional, meaningful goals to improve everyday life. State-of-the-art diagnostic imaging More than 400 women have chosen 3D mammography for breast cancer screening since its launch in early 2019. Made possible with support from Cascade Medical Foundation, our Siemens Revelation unit offers 50-degree wide-angle technology, the industry’s highest depth resolution. 3D mammography enables earlier detection and increases diagnostic confidence. We also replaced our bone density scanner, called DEXA, which measures bone strength. The new DEXA equipment is the gold standard for measuring bone mass, as well as fat and lean muscle mass (BMI), for the most accurate body composition analysis available. A 3-year-old boy and Occupational Therapist Sarah Peery work on fine motor skills during a pediatric therapy visit.
